Sxore is the spawn of the Devil

Alternative title: if you left a post in recent weeks, and it hasn’t appeared, I’m sorry.

(don’t click on the link. It will only make it worse).
I dabbled with Sxore a while back for this site. At first it was great, users didn’t have to login to leave comments. Then , for some reason, sxore stopped letting me login, and didn’t have a ‘lost your password?’ link to save the day. Hundreds of insightful / witty / cutting comments got lost in the ether.

I bit the bullet and turned it off. The problem being that my ‘last known good’ version of this blog had sxore as part of the backup. So , every time I restored the website (you’re looking at version number 3), sxore came back again.

So , if you left a comment and it’s not here, I’m sorry. It only makes me feel slightly less bad that Conor from Argolon (the Sxore dealing merchant that he is 🙂 has turned it off as well.

Yeah, a big disaster for us both, sorry.

I started writing an extractor to pull the comments out of sxore and into WordPress but haven’t had the time to finish it.

I was also promised a DB dump of my comments by the sxore guys so I could try importing them into WP but that never materialised.

Why is the word “silo” banging around inside my head? I think the word “Open” should now be officially banned in any product name or description.

I wonder if Valleywag’s recent gossip mongering has some basis in fact?

Odd, I did a comment on this here yesterday and it disappeared. Are you sure you’ve got rid of sxore 😉

Worst blog decision I ever made relying on a third party to hold my comments in a proprietary DB.

I was also promised a DB dump of my comments out of sxore so I could try importing them into WP but it never appeared.

I was working on my own import tool which was able to get the data out of sxore (but not able to do anything with it yet) but haven’t had the time to finish it. I’ll let you know if I do.

So much for “open this” and “open that” eh?
